Hi friends!
I’m Lauren! I’m a voice, speech, and accents specialist based in St. Louis, MO. I’ve spent my artistic career working professionally in New York, Los Angeles, and midwestern U.S. regional theatre markets. As an accent and dialect coach, I have experience on Broadway national tours, at LORT regional theatres, and in acting studios and conservatories. I currently serve as an Assistant Professor of Voice & Speech at the Sargent Conservatory of Theatre Arts at Webster University, where I have the privilege to collaborate with amazing early-career actors in advanced dialect training. I hold an MFA in Acting Pedagogy with a concentration in Voice and Speech from California State University-Long Beach, and a BFA in Acting from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. I am a proudly certified teacher of Knight-Thompson Speechwork, and a Certified Level One Practitioner of The Singing Athlete system.
As much as I love my artistic career, I also love the things that complete me as a human: spending time in nature, browsing local thrift and record stores, experimenting in the kitchen, and cuddling my A-grade cuddler of a dog. He’s recently developed an inexplicable fear of the oven, which makes the cooking hobby a bit more complex. Rescues, ya know?
I’m a big believer in the intrinsic link between voice and identity. You are who you are in part because of your voice, and a shift or disruption in your ability to use it freely can feel truly threatening — particularly for those of us whose voice is an integral part of our craft. As a coach, it’s my intention to equip you with the tools to meet each personal and professional need. It’s my intention to take what is already part of your identity and foster its growth. I feel strongly that it is never my place to correct. Not my place to prescribe. Never my place to judge. I’m here to learn from each student, client, or collaborator. I’m here to bring what expertise I have to the table, but only in a way that retains its fluidity. I’m also hoping to invoke a sense of play and curiosity in our work; it can be serious, but it should also be rewarding! Your voice is YOURS for a reason, and I’m here to support that story. In fact, let’s celebrate it together.
